"I suggest that the only books that influence us are those for which we are ready, and which have gone a little further down our particular path than we have gone ourselves."

As women, we are constantly in a state of flux, facing crises, changes, and life circumstances for which we are seldom prepared. We move, marry, have babies, shift careers, lose loved ones, become widowed, divorced, or abandoned, develop breast cancer or other diseases, yo-yo through menopause, care-take family members, retire, relocate, and grow older. To compound matters, our individual changes coincide with larger issues such as terrorism, war, and financial instability. It is little wonder we feel anxious, overwhelmed, and confused.
Because we have never been taught how to successfully maneuver through the transitions of our lives, our responses to change have typically been short-sighted ones. In our attempts to "survive" and "get through," we deny, ignore, control, anesthesize, stay chronically busy, get sick, or move on too quickly. Instead of bringing us into happiness and fulfillment, these responses only serve to increase our feelings of discontent, isolation, anxiety, and depression.
The Joy is in the Journeyaddresses a woman's need for "directions" during times of change. Based on eight practical solutions and spiritual principles, the book provides transitional know-how for a woman to put crises and changes to good use, using them as catalysts for becoming usefully whole and serenely content.
After explaining "what to expect" during a transitional period, The Joy is in the Journey guides a woman through the Eight Practical Solutions of Self-Acceptance, Balance, Embracing Spirituality, Letting Go, Healing, Paying Attention, Taking Action, and Living Consciously. Each Solution has a co-existing Spiritual Principle. Although each chapter could be a book unto itself, together they offer an ongoing guide to help a woman navigate through the challenges and complexities of her outer crises and changes, while addressing her inner hunger for deeper spirituality and greater life meaning. With compelling examples of other 'women-in-transition' and specific suggestions, the book is a hands-on, "How To" resource that appeals and applies to women of all ages and stages, all beliefs and orientations.
